"it will be the ninth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise"

edit

It's the tenth, not the ninth.

"the tenth highest-grossing opening for a film ever"

edit

This is incorrect. This excerpt seems to imply that the film grossed over $400 million at once in its opening weekend, ignoring the fact that the film was released internationally on May 19th and managed to gross $292 million before its North American release date (June 25th). It's North American opening weekend gross was just $70 million, the biggest during the pandemic so far, but nowhere near the $400 million implied above.

F9 (film)F9: The Fast Saga – Per WP:NCFILM:

Branding subtitles – Subtitles and possessives used for brand recognition may be omitted for concision, unless they are being used for natural disambiguation.

  • Oppose. Current title is concise, recognisable and commonly used. Proposed title is none of these. The existing redirect from the proposed title should stay of course, as should the several other redirects resulting from previous moves. Hopefully this RM will lead to stability. Oppose: "The Fast Saga" was just a marketing subtitle, similar to Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. The billing block on the poster only lists the title as "F9". Trailblazer101 (talk) 16:38, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

That only applies for official titles. Film articles should never use a title that was only used in marketing. The official title is reflected as "F9" in the film's billing, so that is what the article title should be. A natural disambiguation is often preferred, but is sometimes (as in this instance), not correct to do so. NATURALDAB states such a title "is sometimes preferred", but that does not mean it has to be upheld in every instance. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:12, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
WP:OFFICIALNAME we do not use official names because they are official -- 65.92.246.77 (talk) 07:51, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yet there are some valid exceptions, especially where the WP:COMMONNAME (which for this is F9) are more applicable. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:30, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oppose The Fast Saga would be a better subtitle for the Fast and Furious franchise than the ninth movie. Rager7 (talk) 17:20, 6 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
