      I've learned a lot from Dustin, but I come back to see if there's something I missed or can make better. Had the fire department knocking on our barn door recently, the wind and rain that night caused our security to malfunction and alert for fire. Reconfigured and fixed. Nothing like opening your door with a weapon to some frightened EMS workers. It wasn't a 🔫. It was one of Dustin's recommendations from this video that we already had. 😉

      I get what your saying and me likewise.
      Alot of times I get reminded of things live forgotten or a different view on a idea I already have. I love different views on old ideas. The guy that runs this show often pops in to say hello too and that's great cause a lot of channel hosts don't even bother. This is one of the 3 channels I glue to on thos topic.
      I'm here to stay I think. 🤔

    Here in Idaho Falls, we are exposed to extremes in weather without the 100+ temps of other states. We have infrequent earthquakes. High winds, hail and copious rain are very common. We are relatively safe from civil unrest and high crime, although this may/will change as more people escape to here from areas not as friendly as ours. All of this said, we probably are among the best prepared states. We are not Mormon but do take as much counsel as possible from those that are born into a prepper mindset. Preparation is our mantra. Prayer and development of like-minded friendships are vital. Dustin helps keep us on track in our lifestyle and we thank him for that!

      Gary, it sounds like you’ve really got a solid handle on things up there in Idaho Falls. Dealing with those wild weather swings and the occasional earthquake must keep you on your toes, but it’s great that you’re in a place where civil unrest and high crime haven’t taken hold yet. I love that you’re open to learning from the Mormon prepping mindset-it just shows how much we can all gain by sharing ideas and experiences. Prayer, preparation, and community are such a strong foundation to build on. I’m glad the channel helps keep you on track-it means a lot! How’ve things been going up your way lately?

      @reliableprepper Things are always slower in the winter for us. I spend my time reading a lot of stuff, watching YT to gain what knowledge I can, prepping in small ways. Example: I have stocks of whole coffee beans in the original packaging. When near to expiration, I grind them, place into 1/2 gallon mason jars and vacuum seal to extend life further.

    Considered leaving the states but where is a person to go? It's screwed up everywhere now. Bugging in is the best choice but preparedness to bug out has to be part of the bugging in plan. When all is lost, (look at LA right now, Jan 12, 2025), had this been a grid down bugging in situation, you "MUST" be prepared to know when all is lost or about to be lost it's time to bug out.

    • @reliableprepper

    In my judgement, in a long-term grid down scenario, the law no longer applies. Authorities are going to be too busy to handle all the problems and issues and break-ins and crime going on. You're on your own. By the time authorities may get to you the situation will be long over and done. This is the reality. Forget the law. Take care of it yourself. Intruders are unwanted uninvited threats.

    Another one of your great videos and when you mentioned bricks the more expensive alternatives for a wall i was thinking that you can make it less expensive. If you go to your store and buy bricks buy a small amount that you can afford and then next month you buy more and you do the same thing the next upcoming months and soon you will have enough bricks for a wall or whatever you want to build. And security is really important and 4 -6-hour shifts as guard that will not work and why you will not be able to stay alert for that long. How do i know this well, when i was in the army i had at the end of my service guard duty and i had 2-hour shift and especially at night it was horrible when nothing happen you get less alert. But at day a 2-hour shift is manageable and no more than that but at night i would recommend 1-hour shifts because it would be much more manageable that way. I have shared this video out and a 👍as usual.

    • @reliableprepper
      @reliableprepper  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for the thoughtful insights, Shadow! Breaking the cost down month by month is such a smart way to tackle a project like building a wall. Your experience from the army really highlights how important manageable guard shifts are-1 to 2 hours makes sense, especially at night. I appreciate you sharing the video too! How’s everything going with you this week?

    I'm wanting to move rural, but I know, if things go down, the woodlands and farms will be inundated by those that survived the cities destruction. I'm thinking of how to make my small farm look more populated than just me. If I have some extra cash, I'm thinking of buying some cheap vehicles and parking them around the driveway - not too close to the house for cover for intruders. I could move them around to make them look used without having to buy much insurance since they wouldn't leave my property. Do you have other ideas of deception besides mannequins and fake security cameras?

    • @reliableprepper
      @reliableprepper  2 месяца назад +2

      That’s a really smart approach, Zanne. Using vehicles to make the property look busier is a great idea. You could also try things like hanging clothes on a line, leaving tools out in visible areas, or planting fake crops near the road to make it seem more active. How’s the move to a rural area coming along?

    • @zanneizzo8113
      @zanneizzo8113 2 месяца назад +3

      @reliableprepper Right now it is only in the planning stages. I'm trying to strategically think through all that I need to do to have a secret room built in a basement for supplies etc. I really like your clothesline idea - especially to have big man shirts and pants hung up to dry (which I could get from Goodwill). Maybe put some big men's shoes and boots by the door as well. You've given me more ideas! Thank you!

HAVING RECENTLY BEEN THROUGH HURRICANE 🌀 HELENE I can tell you everything that is being stated here is critical for your survival. An Apocalyptic situation doesn't always come as a Hurricane but take the Californian wild fires that are still out of control. They are a possibility for all of us, regardless of where we live. @@reliableprepperappreciate your concern. We are still recovering. Sadly, the areas all around us still look like a bombed out war torn area. Many people are still living in tents. The rivers, which were crystal clear trout streams are filled with trash and debris of homes washed down stream, broken apart. Plus, we still have thousands of trees on river banks, filled with broken boards, etc. We've been through several hurricanes, having lived in Florida and Alabama, but the devastation of Helene is unsurpassed. It will be many years before we have our mountains back. Again, appreciate you asking. 🙏

    BUGGING-IN is probably the best plan - until it ISN'T. No matter how well you fortify your home, and network with your neighbors, there may come a time when LEAVING is the only viable option. One obvious "red flag" is the arrival of groups of looters or marauders, and/or frequent gunfire in the area. PROBLEM: if you decide to BUG-IN, then by the time you decide to LEAVE it may be TOO LATE.
