Wayfarer (vineyard)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wayfarer Vineyards is a winery located in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of the Sonoma Coast, California.[1] It is known for producing small lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.[2] The vineyards was established by Jayson Pahlmeyer and has gained recognition.[3]

History

[edit]

Wayfarer was founded in 1998 by Jayson Pahlmeyer, who sought to develop a vineyard in a remote coastal area with ideal conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.[4][5] The vineyard is located at an elevation of 1,100 feet, benefiting from the cool, maritime climate and well-draining soils.[6]

In 2012, Jayson’s daughter, Cleo Pahlmeyer, took over the management of the vineyard and launched the Wayfarer brand, focusing on estate-grown wines.[7]

Events and recognition

[edit]

Wayfarer has received praise from wine critics and publications.[8] The vineyard's wines have been included in annual California Pinot Noir All-Americans lists and have garnered high ratings from wine critics such as Robert Parker[9] and Wine Spectator.[10][11]

In 2015, the vineyards was recognized as Winery of the Year by the Pinot Noir Wine Report for its 2013 vintage.[12]

Management

[edit]

Cleo Pahlmeyer has led Wayfarer since 2012, overseeing winemaking and brand development.[13] The vineyard works with winemakers to craft its wines, emphasizing sustainable and precision viticulture practices.[14]
