Well, that was an interesting journey for sure. Would have benefitted from a few more episodes to flesh out more of the characters and plot. Delivers on technical aspects such as sound and animation, but the plot had its fumblings and the ending could have been paced better. Perhaps I wasn't the target audience, but it was a decent, bingable series. Had a good start but lost me in the latter half.

So Rebecca gets absolutely smashed by adam smasher... fuck. You'd probably expect most of the cast to die anyway, but I wish that at least Rebecca'd get to live... ;(

Some quick final thoughts: based on simply pure spectacle, it gets an A+ obviously, and I think 99% of viewers will agree. The issue that most people seem to be having is that it moves too fast or the story being too lacklustre. The story is basic, but completely fine. Could've been better with more time to tell it I'd guess. But I'd like to suggest that this project should've go for one of two extremes: give it more time to tell its story with 20+ episodes, or compact these 10 episodes into a movie around 2 hours. Because honestly I just feel that having 10 episodes makes it feel like that awkward middle child. It had to have separate episodes because really it'd work better that way with the various gigs they'd go on and what not, but I'd imagine that it couldn't hurt to try the tight, compact, and cohesive format of that of a movie. I'd say that you either max out on everything and go absolutely hardcore in movie format, or take the time to tell this story and perhaps expand and deepen our characters a little more. Speaking of our characters, I have no significant issues with them whatsoever. I don't find them flat at all, and got easily attached to them just moments after they were introduced. Sigh... I'm still bummed out about Rebecca though.

After finishing episode 6 I thought that that was probably going to be the best episode of the series; and I was right. Even if that was just a standalone short film I would've thought it to be just short of masterful. The rest again is just some great spectacle in the form of lots of blood and guts and various gore. Gotta applaud them for really not holding back in that regard. It's all wrapped up in a pretty standardized-story: so it's a neat little package with some flashy eye-catching wrapping but while not much, enough of a present on the inside.

I guess I'm comfortable enough to say that I'm satisfied, but I still think there was plenty of room left for true greatness. I wouldn't put this up there with Hiroyuki Imaishi's other directorial works like Promare, Kill la Kill, and Gurren Lagann (which are all like, at the top of my list lol), but it's still solid enough. I had a blast. Made me kind of want to play a game that I'd never thought I'd want to play again.

7/10

I'ma be honest, this was not that good. It could have been so much better if it managed to grab my attention and keep it. This really felt like a chore to get through.

Still, it's the best Trigger work so far.

I fucking freakin loved it ,wish there was 2-3 episodes of side quests before they decided to wipe out the team leader n his love n beccas bro..still I'm glad they did this as a standalone. Kudos to the studios ,the director n team.
The Animation is soo good reminded me of Gurren Lagann n Great Pretender. A Very good Cyberpunk story. 8.9/10

Damn this was actually much better than I was expecting it to be. As much as we all love a happy ending, it isn't surprising that this ending was rather bittersweet (or straight up sad, depending on how you look at it). David's death was foreshadowed early on in the show, and after Maine died he just went on a downward destructive spiral. Some people are understandably salty but this is the ending that makes the most sense. Also, Rebecca was done fucking dirty man, she aint deserve that.....

Overall this was a highly entertaining show. Trigger's outlandish style fit this perfectly, and I'm glad we got to see this in full uncensored glory (imagine if this was a TV broadcast lol). The animation was great, the music throughout the show was top-notch, the characters were cool, but if I had just one major complaint, it's that the ending lowkey felt rushed. Another episode or two could have fixed that, but it is what it is. It still told a nice and enjoyable story in the short 10 episode span that it had.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

This anime feels more style over substance. The plot is quite simple but coherent and the main focus is definitely on the action. The romantic aspects of the story are emphasised and yet shallow. The biggest failure of the story is that it fails to truly explore Night City: Gangs and rivalling corps are captured well but there is no exploration of the daily life of a Night City citizen after Ep1.

I feel a little bit guilty because what happened was that I was one of the first people on the creative team to actually vote Rebecca out of the original cast during pre-production because what happened was that when CDPR first got the character design, and they were like, 'she's a loli, lolis don't exist in Night City and she doesn't fit in CB2077 aesthetic', but Trigger was like 'NO, THE LOLI MUST STAY', but ultimately she's best girl so it was a right choice.
It is so dense. Every single image has so many things going on.

Dude, I just feel shit after this end. I mean... its interesting and good that the show made me feel something - better than just saying "meh" - but feeling miserable is... not that nice lol.
Nah man, this ending.... that is just too heartrending. Just everybody being dead, except Falco and Lucy, but the corpos being still alive and well.

Maybe a bit side-tracked here but: I remember Isayama saying that the first ending he had in mind for AoT was much darker than what it now actually is. I can't imagine how fucked I would be, if AoT's ending was even more heartbreaking than the Edgerunners ending.

As for the anime overall: I definitely enjoyed it. The music is just 10/10 in the anime. I would have given it a 10 if the anime would have maintained the quality from the first few episodes. It kind of was... rushed I feel. I felt that there were too many jumps in the telling of the story. I also wonder: why didn't they do 12 or 13 episodes like normally but only 10? Could have felt less rushed with a few more episodes.

Oh well, maybe that's just the story that they wanted to show from Night City: there is no happy end...

An unhappy ending was obvious in the making from the time the Psycho thing was introduced but seeing it unfold was heart-breaking, nonetheless. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten, David. Props to him for arranging for his partner to fulfill her dream at least despite the condition he was in! I had no expectations for the show and it didn't seem to immediately hook me in either but once I started going through the episodes, my impression changed for the better.

I was hoping Rebecca wouldn't have to die, but they literally killed her off in the worst fashion possible. Adam Smasher and the higher authorities of the company not getting taken out is obviously not a pleasant sight for us viewers but it's a little too much for one small group, so it can't be helped.

Of course, the show wasn't without its flaws though. No idea why they decided to go with 10 eps here because it feels like the standard 12-13 could've done the job better but well, it is what it is. Many unneeded characters were introduced too and some just died a little too early.

On the positive side of things, there's a lot to unpack! For starters, the setting was gritty and the animation style straight from the wonderful folks over at Trigger exemplified and complimented that a lot. Soundtrack was fabulous and the spoiler below contains the track that has been on repeat for about 30 mins now since the end of the final ep. I wasn't expecting the show to have a good romance element to it too, definitely the element of the show that surprised me the most. This genuinely felt like a Trigger x Imaishi Hiroyuki-san show, and I honestly can't wait for more this of this collab!

David's memories flashing before his eyes plus the soundtrack playing in the background were seriously too good. Also, the moment when the song replayed on the Moon plus the attempted escape scene.

Yuuki Aoi-san totally nailed the role of Lucy! I freakin' love her playing these roles. I'm glad we got Tsuda Kenjirou-san too, albeit for a very limited time.

Settling with an 8/10 for this! I've been hyped for this ever since the announcement. I heard the game flopped so I came into this without expectations and I'm curious to try out the game now.

Edit: Just noticed they didn't use Symphony 9 anywhere in the show. Why not?..

@Dhemereon Ah, good point about the driver. Didn't consider that. Still doesn't really help but well, feels like a question answered reasonably. And yeah, the VAs always do a great job. I didn't mention KENN and the others too but they also did a great job. I just happen to be a fan of the two more.

I wasn't a big fan of the anime, but the last episode was by far the best. I think it was fitting that David went out the pretty much the same way as Maine did, and I credit the directors and writers who made sure the show stayed true to its themes. It wasn't a glamours or happy ending, but I think it was what the show and its characters deserved.

That was a pretty underwhelming ending, definitely not helped by the overuse of gore and how poor the character writing and chemistry were. The same goes for the romance. That said, the writing was solid when it came to actions and their consequences, as seen with psychosis and Kiwi getting double-crossed after doing that herself.

On to the technical aspects, the animation was amazing and went well with the setting, lending itself an excellent sense of aesthetics, something obvious enough from the trailer itself. The same can't be said of the music though. The music itself is completely fine on its own but the tendency to play it even during dialogue scenes took away from those scenes instead of adding anything.

All in all, I can now understand a lot of the things people say about Trigger anime. It also did really end in space; I thought that was just a meme that over-exaggerated things.

Also, if it wasn't obvious enough already, best OP/ED of the year goes to Cyberpunk now, especially the ED. Easily some of the best visuals I have seen this year.

the art style, OST, animations, fights and vibes where all great but after ep 3 the pacing went speed x100 and actually skipped 90% of the whole char development and plot and only showed the "milestones" in the story ... at the end the story (if we can call this pathetic story a story) went into nothing but pointlessness

I wished so bad that the writers would had written a story which would had been worth to be so good animated
min 24 eps and a MC which doesnt spit on the life his mother gave for him ...

at the end we just had a heartbroken Lucy left ... Rebecca died for our retarded MC and at the end he didnt even find out what Lucy was doing all the time to protect him ... god ... the more i think now about this anime the worse it becomes
first i wanted to give it 6/10 (fine) because everything except the story was great ... but i cant now ... this is just too cruel ... 1/10
i refuse to support this kind of shitty story and pacing
u could have written literally everything and still decided to go with this trash
i will not let get myself fooled with those fancy animations and atmosphere

edit: now after some discuss with other people I decided to give it 6/10 as i wanted to give it first
i have to accept that the story isnt bad written but instead they just decided to give this anime a pointless story about a guy which doesnt want to make anything out of his life and ignore what his mentor said "its all about how u die"

so its fine but not bad

It's not adapting the game though, it is telling an original story in the world of a game. So no, I guess. But we already have a really good game based anime: Steins;Gate.

I know everyone is pretty sad about David, but can we talk about Adam Smasher, goddamn the design and everything about him was so good, an absolute menace.
Also Rebecca's death was absolutely unnecessary like what was even the point of that? Shock factor?
Overall pretty good anime, action and animation was everything you expect from Trigger and maybe a bit more, the story was better than I expected but some decisions like David injecting every limb of his body with horse piss after seeing what happened to Maine seemed pretty dumb to me.
Another dub for original anime, 7.5-8/10 .

I give it a 7 but only because they pepsi'd Rebecca (would have been a 8 for me if no pepsi), she was fucking amazing and really hard carried the second half.

To be honest overall I have mixed feelings, it's the game all over again. Good start but gets the shitty depressive ending.
I had no problem with David dying but it was really meh that they copy pasted the cyberpsycho plot from Maine.

It was a good, fun and stylistic rollercoaster. Would definitely have profited with a few more episodes to flesh certain things out mostly regarding Lucy and David. There is a limit to character development with so few episodes. The moment Adam Smasher was introduced, I hoped for an epic brawl.. David just got obliterated instead, which was the most dissapointing thing in the show.

Still secretly hoped David would choose his life and stop, but he's a stupid kid and he definitely acted like that all the way through. Suits his character, as kids his age tend to be blinded by what is important for them at that moment. It's all or nothing so he met his end.
